Parent-Proof notes for William Talbott
William was named in his father’s will.

At St. Margaret’s Parish, Westminster (in Anne Arundel County) births of four sons were recorded for Edmond Talbert and wife Mary including Edmund on 17 Mar 1707 and William on 18 Mar 1709. I believe this is our Talbott family.

My Comments notes for William Talbott
Part of my reasoning in sorting this family out is that almost all the mentions of the Talbotts in the records of St. John’s/St. George’s Parish in the mid-1700’s were known members of the family of Edmund Sr. and of course I have found credible evidence that Edmund came to that area from Anne Arundel County by about 1720.

Interestingly, there was a book written in 1927, entitled “Descendants of Richard and Elizabeth (Ewen) Talbott of Poplar Knowle, West River, Anne Arundel County, Maryland”. I have searched this book for any evidence of Edmund and there is none (though there were enough men named Edward to at least consider that someone the author called Edward may sometimes have been called Edmund. But, I don’t think so. For now I think that Edmund was not of that family.

But more importantly, there is evidence that some of this other Anne Arundel family found their way to the Harford County area where Edmund and his family had gone earlier. Specifically, Vincent Talbott who married Elizabeth Bosely in 1773, a marriage recorded at St. John’s/St. George’s -- was in fact of this other Anne Arundel County family. So there was a little “cross-contamination”, at least by 1773, and it makes me wonder whether the Mary Talbott who married Thomas Ensor might not have been an interloper too from this other Talbott family as well.

Phyllis Hughes writes: “My records show that Vincent Talbott was the son of Edward Talbott and Termperance Merryman. Edward was the son of John Talbott and Mary Waters. My sources are, among others, the Baltimore Co., MD Probate records.”
Children Names notes for William Talbott
The records of St. John’s/St. George’s Parish record these births/baptisms as children of William and Mary: James 20 Aug 1731, Sarah 7 Jul 1733, William 10 Feb 1735, Edmund 20 Apr 1738 and Lucina 17 Jun 1743.

The will of William was written 25 Feb 1752 and proved 24 Apr 1752. He named son James (eldest) and sons William, Edmund and Matthew and daughters Sarah wife of Samuel Day and Mary and Ann. The baptism list doesn’t exactly match as Matthew, Mary and Ann were not so listed -- and Lucina was baptized but apparently pre-deceased her father.

We learn from a deed of division of William’s land in 1772 that Edmund had died young and that William died at about the age of 25, leaving James and Matthew as the only surviving sons.
