My Comments notes for Robert Thomas Hunter
In 2005, I found Census listings for Robert for 1900 to 1930; the 1920 and 1930 listings being clearly him, from the presence of Priscilla and Lucy May in his household. And I felt I pretty likely had found him in 1900 with his parents and 1910 living on his own.
In 2005, the 1940 Census was not yet available, now it is, so let me start with Robert as I have now found him in 1940 and work backwards.
1940. Robert T Hunter, age 45, born Missouri, an “operating administrator for a motion picture studio”, lives in Los Angeles with Priscilla age 42 born in Mexico, Robert W age 20 born Arizona and Susan E age 17 born Arizona. (As an aside I found the Nogales, Arizona birth record for Robert William Franklin Hunter born 2 Dec 1919. Franklin is the middle name of Priscilla’s father and the maiden name of her grandmother.)
1930. Robert T Hunter, age 35, is living in Assembly District 55 in Los Angeles (3169 Lake Hollywood Drive) where he is in Real Estate Sales. He lives with wife Priscilla, age 32, and they have three children: Lucy M age 14 born CA, Robert W age 10 and Suzie M age 7 both born AZ. Robert was 21, Priscilla 17 when they married indicating an approximate 1915 marriage date. Robert says he was born in Missouri and that both his parents also had been born in Missouri. Priscilla says she was born in Mexico (“Amer. Cit.”), her father in Maine and her mother in Iowa.
1920. Robert T Hunter, age 25, lives in Nogales, Arizona where he is a drug clerk in a drug store. He says he was born in Missouri but about his parents all it says is United States. His wife Priscilla, age 22, was born in Mexico -– though there is an asterisk saying “Amer. Cit.”. Her father was born in Maine and her mother Kansas. The couple has two children: Lucy May, age 3 years, 11 months was born in California and Robert William age 2 weeks was born in Arizona. The Census was taken mid-January 1920 so is quite accurate as to Lucy’s early 1916 birth.
1910. Robert T Hunter, age 15, lives -– BY HIMSELF -– in LA Township, LA County. He is 15, he was born in Missouri as were both his parents and his occupation is described as salesman of drugs. Note that three things gave me some confidence that this Robert in 1910 really was the right guy (as opposed some other guy with the same name): his stated age, his birthplace as well as his parents (consistent especially with 1930) and the fact that he was always Robert T Hunter. But the clincher for me was that he was a drug salesman in 1910 and a drug clerk in a drugstore in 1920.
Let’s meet his father and then consider the 1900 Census listing I found thinking it was likely Robert and his parents but with no way to really be sure of that.
