Notes for Margaret MacBeth
Andrew Roberstson gives Margaret's lifespan as 1833-1907.

She is 48 years old and was born in Scotland.

I am still looking for the family in the 1891 Census. In 1901, she is present and says she was born 3 Feb 1838, is age 63 and came to Nova Scotia in 1842.

Even though I suspect her husband has died by 1911, I still think I should be able to find Margaret but have not yet done so.
Notes for Kenneth (Spouse 1)
Andrew Roberstson gives Kenneth's lifespan as 1819-1907.

Canadian Census. Keneth McLennan is listed in the 1881 Canadian Census living in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He is 60 years old, a farmer, and was born in Scotland. The family is Presbyterian. Living with him is his 48-year old wife Margaret, daughter Annie 23 and additional children: Catherine 20, Mary 16 and Alexander 11.

I have not yet found him in the 1891 Census.

He is though listed in 1901, now living in South Bay. There is some interesting information about his life in this Census. His birth date is given as 16 Jul 1819 and he is said to be 82 (though since the Census was taekn in April he would only have been 81). He says he was born in Scotland and came to Nova Scotia in 1831. He is a farmer. Living with him is his 63 year old wife and 31 year old son Alexander.

I have found no sign of him in the 1911 Census as he has probably died.

On a compiled list of marriages from old Cape Breton newspapers, I found the citation of the marriage of Kenneth MacLennan of Sydney to Margaret McBeath of Sydney 6 Mar 1855. This date fits well with the birth date of 1856 I have for daughter Annie. Note that Kenneth was almost 36 and there is certainly the possibilityt that he had been married previously -- however the dates make it clear that Annie was the daughter of Kenneth and Margaret.
