Parent-Proof notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
The Wainwright (by Roberts) book seems to make the case that Thomas Bloyce was the son, probably, of Thomas and Judith Adams.
My Comments notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
The Wainwright book tells us a lot about Thomas Bloyce. There were mentions of him in Accomack County, VA in 1663 and 1664, but he had begun buying land in Maryland as early as 1649. His “immigration” to Maryland (from Virginia that is) was recorded in 1662 and he brought his wife and two daughters with him.
Roberts lists about 8 land patents for him in Maryland, some that he assigned to William Wright. He says he was present when Somerset County was established in 1666 and with the Manokin (an area of the county) group.
He further says: “It seems probable that Bloyce Wright was a close relative to Thomas Bloyce who also appears in Virginia records as early as 1636. Bloyce Wright’s son, William, married Frances Bloyce, the eldest daughter of Thomas. Bloyce Wright died before 5 Jun 1688. Thomas Bloyce died before 24 May 1689.”
A book by Clayton Torrence, ”Old Somerset on the Eastern Shore of MD”, says that among the first settlers by 1661 include Thomas Bloyce in Manakin. Early land patents listed for him include: ”Bloyce’s Hope” and “Success”. Headrights (rights to claim land for each person brought into the colony) were granted to Thomas Bloyce for himself, wife Frances and daughters Judith and Frances in 1665. Torrence also says that on the 1678 Maryland Tax List there were 2 citations for Thomas Bloyce, both Somerset County, one for 94 pounds tobacco the other 300 pounds.
Gust Skordas says Thomas Blois had “Pennywise” surveyed in 1679. He also notes that Thomas Bloyce “immigrated” in 1662 with wife Frances and daughters Frances and Judith.
For a long time, I thought Thomas Bloyce came to America in 1662 as per all those mentions of his “immigration” to Maryland at that time. But then I found the Wainwright book and it indicates a much earlier arrival in America for Thomas and notes that the 1662 date is when he moved into Maryland from Virginia.
Somewhere I saw mention of Thomas Bloyce as being listed in "17th Century Colonial Ancestors of National Society of Colonial Dames".
