Research notes for David (Spouse 1)
New Hanover County land records, grantee. There are but three entries for anyone with surname David before 1885:
1. Book AB, page 196. 1738. Michael Higgines to Philip David.
2. Book C, page 172. 1748. Philip David’s will with David David as Executor was recroded.
3. Book D, page 416. 1759. John Cooke to David David.
1. 26 July 1738. in North Carolina, New Hanover precinct, Michael Higgines of Newton in Cape Fear of the aforesaid province, merchant, to Philip David, planter, of the same place. A town lot on Market Street fronting 50 feet on Market St and then 66 feet deep. The descirption is a little confusing plus it’s not clear if Market Street extended to the River or rather began at Front Street but my guess would be Philip’s lot began 125 feet up Market from Front which would put it betwen Front snd Secnd today.
2. Philip wrote his wlll 5 Aug 1747. He gave his land on the North East River “where he now lives” and he splits his town lot which has four houses on it between his son David David and his daughter Mary McKeithan. [His will was also recorded in Craven County. New Hanover was formed from Craven in 1729. There is no deed in Craven with the David surname but it makes me think that Philip David might have been in the Cape Fear area befor 1729.
3. On 1 Sep 1758, John Cooke of Dupin County deeds to David David, planter of New Hanover County, 640 acres (the lower half of a tract of 1280 acres), at the Welsh Tract on the East Side of the North East River in New Hanover County. [The Welsh Tract was originally settled by Welshmen. It lies about half way between Burgaw and Wallace. Whether this is an indication David David was Welsh, I don’t know, but I suspect he was.]

1. Book D page 14. 1753. David and Ann David lease to Alexander McKeithan for the town lot.
2. Book D page 15. 1753. David and Ann David mortgage to Alexander McKeithan for the town lot.
3. Book D, page 509. 7 Feb 1761. David and Ann David to John Williams. A 640 acre tract on the West side of the North East River “over against the three islands above Rocky Point” which Timothy Bloodworth patented in 1737 and then at some point deeded it to Philip David who left it, by will, to his son David David.

On 7 Apr 1750, a survey of 100 acres was authorized for David David described as lying between the land he now lives on on the West side of the North East Cape Fear River and Burgaw.
Then on 28 Jan 1760, Alexander McKeithan and his (unnamed) wife of Bladen County sell their share of that lot to Alexander Ross. Book E, page 56.
Then on 15 Jun 1779, the David David’s daughters sell hjis half of the lot, which that deed says was recorded in book A page 399 except it was book AB page 196.
