My Comments notes for Peter Lamb
Peter Lamb was born about 1710 and died about 1773 in New Hanover County, NC. Nothing is known of his origins, the name of his wife or when nor where he was married. He was a planter. The earliest deed for Peter is for 160 acres on Long Creek (now Pender County) in 1745. In 1775, a deed is recorded showing the transfer of 350 acres of land on Long Creek to (presumed son) William Lamb.
Some of the information I have about this family came from a book on the Doane, Cromartie, Hendry and Lamb families by Henry and Olivia Harvey which I found in the library at Duplin County.
Timeline notes for Peter Lamb
abt 1710. Peter Lamb was born. The year is simply a ballpark guess based on later life events. He probably was born somewhere other than New Hanover County, perhaps even Europe or somewhere else in Colonial America. He obviously also had parents but there is no way of knowing who they may have been.
28 Jan 1745. Peter acquired 160 acres on Long Creek and then shows up as a New Hanover County taxpayer in subsequent years. My guess is this date marks his arrival in New Hanover County from somewhere else.
1736-1752. Peter and his unknown wife had 5 children, according to the research of Frances Lamb Daughtry which I found in a book written in 2002 by Carletta Olivia Wilson Harvey on the Doane, Cromartie, Hendry and Lamb families of North Carolina which I found in the library at Duplin County. I do not know what the factual basis is for the dates and relationships given, my only concern is to know that Peter was William’s father, a fact proven I believe by the fact that he received a tract of land in settlement of Peter’s estate.
The five children were: Thomas, the oldest and presumed administrator of Peter’s estate, Gibbs, Robert, Jean or Jane who married John Stockley and William, the youngest.
March 1775. Peter has recently died and his estate entered probate.
