Parent-Proof notes for 3G GM Eleanor Hurst
She, though her name was given as Ellen (a typo I believe), and husband John Hoshall were named in an 1840 Chancery Court decision which can only be interpreted as basically naming all the heirs of Shadrach Hurst.
Census History notes for 3G GM Eleanor Hurst
Her birth date and death date are deduced from Census records.

Census Listings. I don’t know her father’s name so can’t account for her until she appears presumably with husband John in 1830-1850. She is not listed in 1860 and has presumably died.
My Comments notes for 3G GM Eleanor Hurst
The Hoshall family and the Hurst family were quite close. John Hoshall’s mother was the daughter of Bennett Hurst and the Hursts and Hoshalls lived near each other for several generations in Baltimore County. Eleanor Hurst was the daughter of Shadrach Hurst -- she married her first cousin.
Parent-Proof notes for John (Spouse 1)
His birth date and the proof of his parentage comes from his mother’s Revolutionary War Pension Application. His death date is not known for certain. All I can say is he died sometime between the 1860 and 1870 Census. I wish I knew the date more precisely.
Census History notes for John (Spouse 1)
John can be accounted for in his father’s household in 1790 and 1810 (1800 was lost). I think I have found him in 1820-1860, except for possibly 1840. 1850 is key.

1820. John is head of household in District 5. He is 33 so is presumably the male 26-45. I assume the male and female both 45+ may well be his parents Jesse and Mary Ellen. John is not yet married so I believe the other young people in the household are his siblings.

1830. John Hoshall lives in the 5th Collection District. Nelson was age 3 and a son that age is present too.

1840. John Hoshall lives in the 4th District. Nelson age 13 is present.

1850. John Hoshall age 62 is listed in District 1, Baltimore County with wife Ellen age 45 and 6 children including their oldest (at least still present in the household) Nelson, age 22.

1860. John Hoshall lives in the 6th District with several children. A neighbor is Nelson Hoshall.
My Comments notes for John (Spouse 1)
The date and event of his marriage to Eleanor is documented in Baltimore County and Harford County courthouse records, as found by Lola Hoshall Boring. He married Eleanor Hurst on 2 Aug 1825 (perhaps his license to marry was on that date).

The age difference between John and “Ellen” as reported in the 1850 Census caused me for a while to wonder if she might have been his second wife — and therefore whether she was the mother of Nelson — but their marriage date eliminates this concern. So the stated relationships appear to be accurate.

That John was the father of Nelson is proven by Census records.

In the 1830 Census we find John, age 30-40 and his wife, age 20-30. Actually, John I think was about 42 but Ellen was 25 and certainly the difference in their ages is made clear.

A very interesting deed was recorded in 1859. John Hoshall -- in serious debt -- signed over all his property both real and personal to David Hoshall and John T Ensor. [A young John T Ensor was listed in the 1860 Census as a lawyer, so I would guess that’s who he was.] And I strongly suspect David was John’s son. David and John T were then in charge of selling off John’s property and if funds were sufficient of paying off his debts and giving the balance back to John (after taking a 5% commission for themselves) and if insufficient of paying his creditors ratably.
