My Comments notes for 9G GF John Cumber
John Cumber of Anne Arundel County wrote his will 20 Nov 1676 and it was probated 7 Apr 1677. He mentioned wife Judith, son-in-law Thomas Pratt and to grandson John Cumber he left 200 acre ”Cumberton”.

This land was mentioned in a history book titled ”Quakers in Founding of Anne Arundel“ by J Reaney Kelly which discusses Cumberstone and the house on it named Sudley. It consisted of “600 acres granted to Captain John Cumber in 1659”, a Cromwellian soldier and then a lieutenant-captain in the provincial militia in 1678.

Our Talbott and Colegate ancestors, too, were also Quakers and very much involved in the dispute in Maryland between the Calverts and the Cromwellians. John Cumber was no doubt known to them.
