Parent-Proof notes for 4G GM Mary McClung
A Harford County land record spells it all out. John McClung inherited McLung’s Inheritance from his father Adam. John died and then his six sisters and their husbands divided the land. One of the sisters was Mary wife of Robert Creighton of Harford County.
McClung’s Inheritance was originally 172.5 acres lying partly in Harford and partly in Baltimore County and Robert Creighton, by first buying the shares of two of his wife’s sisters, ended up with 84 acres.
Children Names notes for 4G GM Mary McClung
The birth of daughter Letitia Richardson Craiton on 13 Jan 1792 is recorded in the registers of St. James Parish to Mary and Robert. This would be Letitia R Sturrett mentioned in Robert's will and, by virtue of her being named Letitia Richardson, would seem to substantially document the connection of Mary to Adam and Letitia Richardson.
Parent-Proof notes for Robert (Spouse 1)
I believe I can make a solid case that Robert’s father was James Creighton and also a solid case that Robert’s father was not the James Cretin who was the son of John Cretin. Robert just appeared in Harford County by 1790 or so, I assume just reaching maturity. Harford was part of Baltimore County up until 1773.
The compelling evidence is the 1886 account by Andrew Cross on the history of Bethel Church. It says that James Crichton was the ancestor of the Sterretts and Christopher Slade -- facts I know to be true about Robert Creighton, which seems a clear indication that James was Robert’s father.
James Crichton was clearly a Presbyterian and the Cretin family were Catholic. I think this is additional evidence. Now I don’t know that Robert himself was Presbyterian but he married the daughter of Adam McClung -- another Presbyterian Pioneer. Robert’s grandson Christopher Slade married Maria Elizabeth Carlin and James Carlin was yet another Presbyterian Pioneer. Everything says this family was Presbyterian.
Census History notes for Robert (Spouse 1)
1790. Robt Cretin lives in Harford County iin a household with 1 male and 1 female. I’m guessing this is Robert and his new wife.
1800. Robert Cretin lives in Harford County. One of two females under 10 is likely Delilah. Neighbors are James Carlin and James Creetin.
1810. Robert Cretin lives in Harford County. His oldest reported daughter is 10-16, but Delilah is 19-20 (so where is she?) A neighbor is James Carlin.
1820. Robert Crayton lives in District 4 Harford County. He is 26-45 (a typo I believe). Neighbors are Robert and Samuel McClung and Thomas Poteet (who has no young daughter).
1830. Robert Cretin lives in ED4, Harford County. He is 60-70 and the two older females are 30-40 and 70-80, so it is not clear what the situation is with regard his wife. A neighbor is William Carlin.
1840. Robert Craiton lives in District 4 Harford Co and is 70-80. His wife has died and he lives with 6 females spanning almost all age brackets, the oldest of which is 40-50. After reading his will, I suspect that his daughter Letitia and her husband John Sterritt and their children are living with him.

My Comments notes for Robert (Spouse 1)
We can only bracket Robert’s age -- he was 45+ in 1810 (thus born before 1765), 26-45 in 1820 but there is no way that is right, 60-70 in 1830 (thus 1760-1770) and 70-80 in 1840. His daughter Delilah was born in 1790. If we say Robert was born in 1765, that seems to rule out all of John Cretin’s sons as being the father of Robert. Patrick was born in 1746 but apparently didn’t marry until 1783 and John and James were both born apparently after 1750.
The will of Robert Crayton who died in Harford County in 1847 was written 27 Jun 1831 and probated 30 Mar 1847. In his will he said that his daughter Delilah Slade was to get $40 -- and no more. He left his daughter Letitia R Sturrett -- $18.75 and no more. He left his bedding to Letitia’s daughters: Mary C, Eliza S, Emily Jane and Joanna Ellis. And he left his land and everything else to Robert Crayton Sterritt, Letitia’s son, when he reached age 25. In the meantime, the land and profits thereof belonged to his son-in-law John Sturrett, also named Executor.
