Parent-Proof notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
There are at least five Internet family trees on
Ancestry.com that state that Thomas was the son of Henry Holbrook and wife Isabel and that Henry was born in Somerset County in 1620. Wow, that’s really early. What’s amazing to me is that not a one of them cites any evidence that Henry Holbrook even existed, let alone where they got the information of his birth and his relationship to Thomas.
Relocated notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
Thomas received a land grant in 1681 for a tract then called Harrington and known today as Harrington -- a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Like other early landowners in Somerset County, whether he came from England or up from Accomack County, Virginia is not clear.
Research notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
LDS Film 13128 book 145 p535. Samuel Holbrooke s/o Thos dec'd is claiming 700 ++ acres in Dec 1800 of about 4-5 tracts in Somerset Co including a tract called Harrington of 100 acres granted Thos Holbrooke 16 Mar 1683 and some land of Matthew Hobbs from about 1770 too.
My Comments notes for Thomas (Spouse 1)
The will of Thomas Holbrook (Holbrooke), gentleman of Somerset County, written 1 Dec 1717 was proved 21 Nov 1718. To son Thomas his dwelling plantation on the south side of Wickacomoco River. To daughters Martha Brown and Sarah Write, one shilling each. To grandsons Thos Brown and Thomas Wright, one dollar each. Witnesses were William Harris, Joseph Austen and Anne Aveten but then by the probate date both Joseph and Anne had apparently died. Aveten and Leverton may actually be the same name and maybe even Austen and Aveten are the same. Note that the will did not mention his wife who apparently had pre-deceased him.
