My Comments notes for Edwin A Diehl
Edmund Diehl was listed in the 1870 Census, age 4, living in Mifflinburg with his parents. Then the household totally dissolved. His mother and sister died before 1880. His brother was off on his own. His father at first was unaccounted for. And that brings us to Edmund.
There was an Edmund D Diehl in the 1880 Census, living with Jacob Diehl, 47, in Spring Garden Township, York, PA. For a while, I thought it possible that Jacob was a brother of William H and perhaps took Edmund in when his father died.
But when I finally found William H Diehl in the 1880 Census in Kansas with 14-year-old son Edwin and they were living with Fred Diehl -- brother of William H -- I was sure I had accounted for William’s youngest son, who I now believe was in fact named Edwin, not Edmund.
A final note: in the 1930 Census, Edwin A Diehl, born 1866 in Pennsylvania, was living in Los Angeles. I assume it was this Edwin A.
