Parent-Proof notes for Clarence Milton (Spouse 1)
Milton Hoshall lived with his parents Nelson and Joanna in the 1860 Census. After his father died young, his mother remarried and he then was found in later Censuses living with his mother and step-father Albert Almony, who mentioned him in his will.
Census History notes for Clarence Milton (Spouse 1)
7-month old Clarence, then called Milton, can be found in 1860 with his father. In 1870 and 1880, his father has died and he is found living with his mother and step-father. By 1900, he has married, had a child, lost his first wife, remarried and had a child by his second wife. He lives with his second family and is with them and a second child in 1910 and 1920. Then in 1930, Clarence and his wife live with their married daughter.
My Comments notes for Clarence Milton (Spouse 1)
In addition to solving the problem of Clarence’s pedigree because of the second marriages of all involved, I had one other thing to straighten out. It turns out there was also a man named Clarence E Hoshall who lived about the same time as our Clarence and I had to be sure not to get them confused. But I’m certain Clarence M was our ancestor.

His birth date comes from the 1900 Census. The place is assumed as that is where his parents lived. His date of death comes from his tombstone in Wiseburg Cemetery which gives only the years of his life: 1859-1931. His marriage to Lida Slade on 7 Nov 1885 is cited in the Baltimore County Court House Marriage Book. I also have the date for this marriage of 11 Nov from the ministerial records of Rev. John H Marsh, perhaps the 7 Nov date is of the application. That they were the parents of Lida Slade Hoshall is proven by her name. That his parents were Nelson Hoshall and Joanna Hampshire is proven by tracking Joanna through Census records.

Clarence Milton Hoshall lost his father early and went to live with a step-father when his mother remarried. And he lost a wife (Lida Slade) early when she died giving birth to his daughter whom he chose not to raise -- our grandmother: Lida Slade Hoshall.
