Notes for Annas Rogers
Annas Rogers was the wife of Josiah. She was born about 1763 in Bertie County and died after 13 Oct 1832 in Screven County, Georgia according to the Bland/Lee book. She continued to reside in Duplin County after her husband“s death in 1807 and is found in tax lists and the 1820 Census. Then in 1827, she and several of her sons sold land in Duplin County and next appear, by 1832, in Screven County, Georgia. The cemetery where she is buried, near Savannah, was paved over to make an air park during World War II.
Research notes for Josiah (Spouse 1)
There was a State Census of North Carolina taken in 1786 and Josiah Lee was listed in the Black River District of New Hanover County. In his household were 1 male 21-60, 2 males who were either under 21 or over 60 and two females. Thomas Lee, perhaps a son, and Solomon Lee (the other Lee family?) were also listed.
And listed on the 1782 tax list.
Notes for Josiah (Spouse 1)
Josiah Lee was the father of Jesse. He was born around 1750 and died in 1807 in Duplin County, according to the Bland/Lee book. His will was written 10 Mar 1805 and probated in Apr 1807 in Duplin County. It says he is of Stanford (?) and Duplin County. The abstract reflects the fact that apparently Josiah was spelling-challenged. ”son John one hores Cretor; next ouldest son Jesse one horse cretor; next oldest son Joshua one horse creator; next oldest son Thomas one hore cretor; daus. Sarah, Elizabeth, Anney, Winney and Doras 5 Shillings a pese; rest of my properties to Anney my wife during her life time and then the land to be equally divided betwixt the three youngest sons Reuben, Joseph and Benjamin.•
Note that the names correspond to the letter of Thomas Lee above. Thomas the author refers to brother Jesse (who has recently died) and that brothers Josiah and Benjamin R (Rogers?) and sister Dorcas are the siblings still presumed alive in Georgia. I think Josiah is the same as Joshua in the will and Dorcas was either spelled or transcribed as Doras.
Josiah married Annas Rogers in New Hanover County on 30 Dec 1779. Their marriage bond is recorded in a list of new Hanover bonds, Thomas Highsmith (Annas“ cousin no doubt) was bondsman.
