Research notes for Maria Elizabeth (Spouse 1)
At Longswamp on 4 Jun 1781, daughter Mertz of David and Wife was baptized. Sponsors: Abraham Mertz and Maria Muller. It is this record that proves there is an extra David floating around different than John David the immigrant and young David born in 1774. Maria Miller may be the sister of David’s wife Barbara.

Allen Tallman says this about Elizabeth. "Maria Elizabeth Martz. Evidence of Maria is from her father's Last Will and Testament written in 1820. He mentioned her in his Will as deceased and also her daughter Rebecca Arter. I can calculate her birth to be about 1782. Elizabeth is also mentioned in her brother David's will in 1851. David refers to ‘Rebecca Arter the daughter of his sister Elizabeth Arter, formerly Martz’. In both wills she is referred to as deceased. In Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, Maria Elizabeth Martz married Abraham Arter, date unknown. Abraham Arter was born in Northumberland County, the first day of October 1775 and he died in Northumberland County, 22 February 1853. He is buried in the St Peters (Blue) Church Cemetery, Northumberland County.

Elizabeth came to Northumberland County with her parents about 1786 and settled in the area along the Shamokin Creek. She married and died here and is probably buried in the St Peters Blue Church Cemetery but no marker has been found. Her daughter Rebecca married John Adam Shissler but little is known of that family. John and Rebecca were living in Sunbury, Northumberland County in 1853 but have not been recorded at any other place."
