J L Floyd says this about George. "George O Mertz, son of Solomon and Hannah, was born in Shamokin 4 Jun 1842. When he was ten years old, he moved with his parents on to the home place in Shamokin Township and lived there until he was 17 when he began his career. He pursued a number of careers including colliery and then the lime business. He is now Secretary of the Roaring Creek Water Company. On 2 Sep 1865 he married Emma L Keener of Schuylkill Haven. They had one daughter Ada G who married H C Beury. Ada lived in Phila and had three children: William M, Emma L and Susanna G.”
