The family tradition that has been discredited was that Yost was one of the three brothers who emigrated with Mother Hollowbush. In fact, Yost Hollowbush was born to Peter and Dorothea probably just before the family moved to America. He moved to Philadelphia County by 1800 and died there in 1823.

Yost had several daughters who married men of note. Daughter Elizabeth married Henry Deringer, inventor of the Deringer Pistol. And daughter Mary married Isaac Schunk, who was somehow related to Governor Francis Rawn Shunk who was in office from January 21, 1845 - July 9, 1848.
