Somewhere I read that he died in 1865 at Rose Hill, Orange Co, VA where he had previously located and was buried in New Berlin. But I saw his tombstone in New Berlin and I thought I read that he died 3 Aug 1878 age 78 years, 7 months -- so I can’t explain the apparent discrepancy.
Mary B Lontz transcribed the tombstone 3 Aug 1787 (78) died at Rose Hill, Orange Co, VA. I can believe 1797 but not 1787 as dob.
