I have never concerned myself with knowing the names of her parents. Had i ever seen any mention of them, I would have made note. But it would be nice to know her full name.

M L Kueker found on LDS film 1294878 (Butz) record of the marriage of Peter Mertz to Joanna Frey 6 Dec 1807. But I found the records of Rev. Helffrich who gave her name as Joanna Fey. And, I also have in a very old handwritten note this from Butz: Peter and Johanna Fly baptized a child in 1808.

In the transcription I have of Longswamp records, her first name was given as Rhinney. And on the burial records I found, her first name was given as Jane.

My best guess is her name was Joanna Fey.

I have long suspected that Abraham had a son Peter because there was a Peter Mertz who baptized a son Ely in 1808 at Longswamp Reformed. Abraham was, at the time, about the only what I call Generation II Mertz still in the area. And then I found the proof in the estate papers of Leonard Griesemer, Peter’s maternal grandfather. Peter was listed first on the list of Catharina’s six surviving children.

He is designated P7a.

Peter is difficult to locate in Census. For one thing, there was another Peter (Y1a), both exactly the same age, in Lehigh County and the other was, I think, the one in Macungie Township in 1820 and 1830. Then in 1840, there were three Peter Mertz in Lehigh County. The young one in Lower Macungie was Y2a1, I think. The other two were both age 50-59. I could go either way, but since Fogelsville is in Upper Macungie Township, I have made this Peter the one in that place.

I found his burial record one time on a list of Lehigh County burials with complete birth and death dates. As of summer 2015, he is not on find-a-grave.
