Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for David (Spouse 1)
Allen Tallman quotes a local county history write-up on David. “David Martz was among the older settlers of the county (1815) and has all his life been identified with its growth and development. His father was one of the heroes and patriots of former times, having fought in the War of 1812. Abraham, his father, a native of Longswamp Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, came to this township in 1807-8, from Northumberland County, Pennsylvania while the country was wild and undeveloped. Here his father went to work with a will to clear a farm and make a home, and was subjected to the many trials and difficulties incident to the life of a pioneer.

He has been four times married: first to Mary Snyder, a daughter of Samuel Snyder and Catharine Weaver. She died in 1870, having been the mother of eleven children. The second union was with Catherine Williamson, a widow, whose maiden name was Snyder, and who was a cousin of the first wife. She died after only seven months of wedded life, a victim of consumption, as was her cousin before her. The third wife was Elizabeth Shartle. She died about two years after the marriage. His fourth wife was a sister of his first, from Douglas County, IL. After only six months they separated so he lived out the remainder of his life single.

Religiously Mr. Martz is connected with the German Reformed Church, in which denomination he has been an Elder for nearly thirty years.”

David is designated P2c1.
