Parent-Proof notes for John Hummel
On 16 May 1868, an indenture was made from Ben Hummel and wife Catherine of North’d Co to John Hummel of Monroe Twp for 8 acres in Penns Twp, for $5. Then on 17 Jun 1868, another indenture was made from Ben Hummel of Point Twp to John Hummel of Monroe Twp for 88 acres of land in Monroe Twp on the river, for $5. [These two deeds make it totally clear that John of Monroe Twp was the son of Benjamin. Note that Catherine died 5 Jun 1868 after the first deed and before the second.]
Census History notes for John Hummel
In the 1850 Census, John and Hannah are neighbors of Jacob Hedrick and wife Lydia and Daniel Hedrick who lives with Harriet Stine. These are all cousins of John's I believe as his aunt Elizabeth had married Jacob Hetrick and all three names are among the list of their children.
In 1860, his neighbor is Harriet Stein and her children. Next door to them is Abraham Fisher and wife Sarah age 59. This most certainly is the Sarah Fisher buried in the Hummel Cemetery in 1866 age 65. She must be a Hummel but I cannot find her listed among them in any of the documents I have in my files.
In 1870 his neighbors include: Daniel Hetrick, Abraham Fisher (Sarah has died) and James Kessler. All are relatives.
My Comments notes for John Hummel
The Union County Commemorative Biographical Record says that he was worth over $100,000 at the time of his death.
It is curious that neither John nor Hannah were buried at Hummel's Cemetery. She died in 1878 and he in 1896. Several of their children were buried there.
Children Names notes for Hannah (Spouse 1)
Meiser lists 10 children are for this couple whose names can be verified through Census listings and Hummel Cemetery records.
