Deceased Name:
Grant K. Mertz, 87, of Upper Allen Twp., formerly of Sunbury, died Tuesday in Holy Spirit Hospital .
He retired from the state Department of Public Welfare; was a member of the American Legion and its band, Troop E 103rd Calvary Band & Medic and a lifetime member of Rescue Hose Company 1, all of Sunbury. He was an Army and National Guard veteran and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife Mabel Teisher Mertz; three daughters, Nancy Wynn of Northumberland, Jane Boyer of Mechanicsburg and Beverly Hessler of New Cumberland; a brother, James F. of Palmyra; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Deceased Name: Grant K. Mertz, 87, of Upper Allen Township and formerly of Sunbury, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000 at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.
Born Nov. 27, 1912, in Sunbury, he was the son of the late William Rex and Eva F. Kerlin Mertz.
Mr. Mertz was retired from the state Department of Public Welfare. He was a member in Sunbury of the American Legion, American Legion Band, Troop E 103rd Cavalry Band and Medic. He was a lifetime member of Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Sunbury. He was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard, an Army veteran and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Mertz was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Ralph Mertz, and two sisters, Eileen Grego and Jane Jackson.
