Henry had a difficult life, I think. He married Barbara in 1833, they apparently had two children and she died in 1840. In the 1850 Census, we find Henry living with Nancy Marts, age 32. I don’t think she was his sister so was she a second wife? They lived with four children named Kinder, Nancy’s children by a first marriage?
And there was no sign of Henry’s own children in that household or anywhere else. Then in 1860, Henry lived alone.

There is an Indiana Death Certificate of Sarah Ann Boden born in 1837 in Wayne County, Indiana and died in 1906. It says her father was Henry Marts and her mother’s maiden name Gayler.

According to the family history, he had a son Edward but at least at the time of any Census, Edward never lived with Henry. Nonetheless, I have found marriage records in Illinois for Edward Marts making clear his parents were Henry Marts and Barbara Gayler.
