Children Names notes for Mary Leonard
Their daughter Sarah married Jacob Peter Hummel, her first cousin once removed. He was the son of Daniel P Hummel and Daniel P was the son of Captain John Jacob.
Census History notes for Daniel (Spouse 2)
From the 1850 Census, I have concluded that Daniel dies young, his wife Mary remarries and that the girl named Elizabeth by Ella Rossiter is in fact Anna E in the 1850 Census listing.

He never is listed in Census. In 1840, his widow (or children's guardian?) Mary is listed in Penns with 3 sons 5-15.
Research notes for Daniel (Spouse 2)
A Union Co Orphan’s Court record in May 1846 deals with Daniel Hummel of Monroe Twp deceased. Wife Mary (nee Leonard) now remarried to Jacob Slear and only children under 14 were daughters Elizabeth and Sarah.

But what’s confusing is the 1838 record where Ann Hummel of Penns has died and the children were Lewis, Charles, Percival, Ann Elizabeth and Sarah. So, was Ann the wife of Daniel, she died soon after him, and Mary just became guardian?
My Comments notes for Daniel (Spouse 2)
The names of brothers Charles, Percival and Lewis is a unique combination in the Hummel family. Meiser and Ella Rossiter both said that their father was Daniel Hummel who died in 1838 and whose wife was Mary Leonard, who remarried after his death. Indeed, the 1850 Census shows Mary Schler, wife of Jacob, with Charles Hummel living with her and Lewis and Percival her immediate neighbors.

The red herring is an 1838 Orphan’s Court record where Ann Hummel, deceased, left children of those three names. All I can figure is that Ann was Daniel’s first wife, she died, he remarried almost immediately thereafter and then he died shortly after that. Mary was 13 years younger than Daniel, an age difference that often implies a second wife.
