Parent-Proof notes for Katherine J Witman
On her marriage license application, something is written in the field for her parents names. Before I magnified it, I thought it might say Whitman but after magnification it looks more like Maitman or something like that.
She also said she had married George Satteson about 8 years ago and she was 27 and born in Lancaster County.
This all was nicely cleared up for me by Dale Pennell who wrote to tell me she was the daughter of David and Louisa (McCorkel) Witman and that led to me finding their marriage record and the fact that Kate lived with her parents in 1870.
Census History notes for Katherine J Witman

Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for John (Spouse 1)
We know that Israel had a son John from the 1850 and 1860 Census who was born about 1838 and indeed the death certificate of John Mertz who died in Milton says he was the son of Israel Mertz and Sophia Breininger.
John’s wife was Matilda in 1870 and 1880 and then Kate in 1900. When we first meet Kate in the 1900 Census, it seems clear that she is John's second wife (he 62, she 38) and living with John and Kate are apparently three children of Kate's from a previous marriage to Mr. Satteson.
In fact, that is all proven by John’s application to marry Katherine which says he was married in 1865 to Matilda Walborn and gave her date of death and that Katherine had been married to George Satteson and he died Oct 1885.
John is designated P5a3a.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for John (Spouse 1)
He lived in Milton in 1870 and then Turbot Township -- where other family members also lived — in 1880
He then lived in Northumberland Borough in 1900.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for John (Spouse 1)
His death certificate says he died in Milton and was to buried in the “upper cemetery” — I’m not sure whether that refers to Harmony or Milton Cemetery.
He is listed on find-a-grave in Milton Cemetery.
