Among the children of Andreas and Maria was a son Johann Frederick and another son Jacob. Both of these men moved to New Berlin and the Maurer family became a well established name in that area by the early 1800’s.
Samuel Mertz, of New Berlin, is covered in greater detail in the Mertz chapter. He married Margaret Maurer (1803-1866). According to one source I found (though it may be wrong), Margaret was the daughter of Johann Frederick and wife Catherine. The New Berlin Mertzes were established there by Isaac Mertz, son of Nicholas of Middleburg. Samuel was Isaac’s son. So Samuel was not our direct ancestor, but he was a cousin of our ancestors of that era.
Jacob Maurer married a woman named Eva Hornecker and they had a son Jacob who married Polly Hilbish -- they were second cousins. Polly was the sister of our Catherine Hilbish. This couple is covered in greater detail in the Hilbish chapter.
