Parent-Proof notes for Elizabeth Ann Hughes
I found her full name in an Ancestry family tree. I can’t be sure it’s true, but it shouldn’t have been too hard to figure out if someone was seriously researching this line.

My Comments notes for Josiah (Spouse 1)
In the 1870 Census, the question as to whether Josiah’s father was foreign-born was apparently not asked.
A county history of Adams County, Illinois, with some biographical portraits of leading citizens, mentioned Josiah Carlin (said by Rev. Cross to have moved west). It said he moved in 1872. An Adams County biography of Josiah’s son Daniel added that Josiah was born in 1806 and was a blacksmith by trade. This book referred to Josiah’s father as the adopted William Santee and that is the source, no doubt, of that spelling.
