Parent-Proof notes for 5G GM Elizabeth Peter
Her tombstone states the name of her father. Her father’s will refers to his son-in-law Jacob Baer.
Parent-Proof notes for Jacob (Spouse 1)
In a 1758 Orphan’s Court petition, John Baer’s oldest children John and Barbara, both above the age of 14, requested guardians to be appointed for their “infant” siblings Jacob and Adam. I think the word infant merely implies under the age of 14.
Research notes for Jacob (Spouse 1)
The DAR lists him as “Jacob Baer: b 1745 PA d 24 Feb 1810 m Elizabeth Peter Pvt PA”
My Comments notes for Jacob (Spouse 1)
Jacob is listed as a DAR Patriot, meaning they recognize his service in the Revolutionary War.
A biography of him is given in the “Anniversary History of Lehigh County”. My criticism of all county histories, which were popular publishing projects around the year 1900, is that while they may be reasonably accurate on people alive in that period as well as their immediate ancestors who lived locally -- they are, for the most part, pure fiction when it comes to explaining the more distant origins of the families they cover. So, while I disagree with what they say about Johannes Baer, Jacob’s father -- at least about his forbears -- I have no reason to disagree with and know of nothing in error about the biography of Jacob.
“Jacob Baer, the second son of Johannes, was born 1745 and died in 1810. His wife’s name was Elizabeth; she was born 5 Mar 1748 and died 16 Jun 1815. Her ashes and those of her husband repose at the Lowhill Church. He obtained the old homestead and also several large tracts east of the Adam Baer farm (said elsewhere to have been a few miles northwest of the original homestead). He is said to have owned over five hundred acres of land and have given to each of his six sons a farm. He was the father of twelve children: Jacob who lived and died in Weisenberg, Daniel was married 8 May 1810 to Mariga Ziegler and resided in Weisenberg Township......, John Adam, Johannes born 1 Nov 1773 and removed to Adams County, Henry born 28 Feb 1778 was married to Elizabeth Hoffman 9 Aug 1801 and removed to Luzerne County, Regina whose sponsors were her grandmother Regina Baer and her second husband Peter Grow Jr. who married Johannes Hartman 18 Feb 1800, Anna Margaretha married to Frederick Holben 15 Mar 1796, Catherine Elizabeth born 23 Jun 1784, Maria married to Jacob Kistler, Elisabeth Barbara born 20 Jun 1776 and Elisabeth married to Mr. Gackenbach.”
