Relocated notes for Martin Yerger
IMMIGRANT. Martin Jerger arrived America 5 Sep 1730 on the ship Alexander and Anne.
The church record in America when he died in 1781 said he had been born in Anspach, Germany. There is such a place -- in Bavaria. Bavaria is not a place other German immigrants seem to have come from. It doesn’t mean that is not where the Yergers came from, it just makes me wonder. There is also an Aspach and an Auspach, Germany -- the latter in the Westerwald where I know early German immigrants came from. For now, I will accept the church record literally and I assume therefore our Yerger family came from Anspach.
My Comments notes for Martin Yerger
In addition to Vert Jorger who arrived in 1732, a Martin Jerger arrived in 1730. He, like Peter and Vert, was later named in the records of New Hanover Lutheran Church.
In fact, his death was noted. He died 2 Jul 1781. The church records state that he had been born about 1700 in Anspach, Germany and had lived in matrimony 41 years to Barbara Reichart and by her had two sons and a daughter who predeceased him. His 1781 will named no sons and mentioned daughter Barbara, deceased. She, no doubt, was the Maria Barbara which church records show was confirmed in 1753 at age 12.
He named wife Barbara in his will, too, so she was still alive and they therefore married in about 1740, after he came to America.
I am speculating a little by saying Martin was the brother of Peter and Vert. His known age places him in between those two and he worshipped in the same church they did. So I consider it quite a reasonable assumption to make.
