His name appeared to be Ballad on their marriage record at First Lutheran, Mifflinburg. It was Ballet in the 1880 Census and Berlet when Phoebe’s release on his estate was filed. The 1880 Census said he was born in Germany.

We know her from Census as F Anne in 1850 and Phoebe in 1860 and then she and her daughter Ada filed releases of George W Diehl (I assume Phoebe’s brother of that name and not her nephew) on the estate administration of Jacob, Phoebe’s husband, in 1890.

I made a special effort to get Phoebe’s death certificate from the State of Pennsylvania which I felt I needed to have absolute proof that George Diehl’s wife was named Elizabeth Walter. Her death certificate gave her date of birth and death and did name her parents. Her father’s name is hard to read, but if you suspect it was George, you can see “Geo” but her mother’s name was clearly stated: Eliza Walter.

1880. Jacob Ballet 49 and wife Phebe 43 and daughter Adda 6 all live with Jacob’s uncle William Bohnesteeel. William and Jacob were born in Germany.

1900. Phebe A Balliot is in Mifflinburg, the mother-in-law of William Gaunt married to Ellen B. Phebe was born Jun 1833 and had 2 children, both still alive.

1910. Pheobe Bartell -- same as 1900, everyone 10 years older.

1920. William and Ellen Gaunt still in Mifflinburg, no sign of Phoebe.
