My Comments notes for John Poteet
I don’t claim to have all the John Poteets sorted out, there must have been three (or more). But the deed whereby John Poteet, Itallian, sold all his possessions to a group of 6 men just had to be a man selling those things to his sons and sons-in-law. For example, one of the buyers was named Charles Simmonds and we know that in 1742 Elizabeth Poteet had married Charles Summons.
Since the date on the John, Itallian, deed was 1745, it could not have been this John’s father, so it must have been this John, his son. And so the great mystery remains: why did John, grandson of Francis, append the word Itallian to his name?
