There is a James Potee who with wife Elizabeth baptized four children at St Johns/St Georges in 1720, 1722, 1725 and 1728. I wanted him in my database and simply needed a place for him and so, until I learn something new, I have guessed that he was Francis’s son although if Francis died before 1688, James was well into his thirties when he baptized these children.

Then a different, apparently younger, James Poteet married Elizabeth Crabtree in 1748 in the same church records and the consensus on the Internet is he was the son of John Poteet and Elizabeth Creswell.

It seems pretty clear they were two different James.
