Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Vandine Martz (P1a1a)
Vandine was the known son of Simon from the 1850 and 1860 Census. Speculation is that his name was perhaps his grandmother’s maiden name -- i.e. that Catherine, wife of Jonathan, was Catherine Vandine. The Vandine family was a neighbor of the Martz family in the 1800 Census.
Vandine is designated P1a1a.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Vandine Martz (P1a1a)
The 1870 Census is the first one where Vandine was reported on his own though he was a little hard to find — because his name was transcribed as Cndine Mrtt. Go figure. Upon examination, it is clearly Vandine Martz. He lived in Upper Augusta Township and was still there in 1880.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Vandine Martz (P1a1a)
Vandine is on find-a-grave.
His exact dates of birth and death come from his death certificate.
Known Sons notes for Vandine Martz (P1a1a)
Vandine had several sons. He was married three times and had sons by each. The Richard J Martz Almanac paints a very interesting picture of Vandine. His business transactions and different activities over the years makes an interesting story. As does his involvement with at least three different women, some of whom brought children from a previous marriage into his household or perhaps a child they had with Vandine before they married him.
The ancestor of Richard J Martz was Charles Milton Martz (1880-1943) who was Vandine’s son by Catherine Bubb — after their marriage.
