Parent-Proof notes for John Talbott
When John’s inventory was filed in 1771 by his wife Sophia and son John, he was said to be John, son of John. Next of kin were Benjamin and Thomas Talbott. When the estate accounting was filed, he was said to be John of Mine Run Hundred.
My Comments notes for John Talbott
This John is a very key figure in proving that his family had moved to Mine Run Hundred, Baltimore County and connecting his family to the Pearce and Wiley families of that place.

I don’t know why it took until 1788 for the accounting of his estate to be filed and finally in 1792 for it to be settled -- perhaps they waited until all the children had reached maturity. In any event, the final settlements show payments to the widow Sophia and children: Richard Colegate Talbott, Jeremiah Talbott, Henry Talbott, Greenbury Wiley (who had married Rachel Talbott) and Sophia.

His inventory showed a leasehold of 170 acres on Carroll’s Manor. Now that is very interesting. It may be that many leaseholds on Carroll’s Manor were for 170 acres but it strikes me as a very interesting coincidence that on the 1783 tax list, Blois Wright is listed with 170 acres on Carroll Manor. Did he acquire this leasehold from the estate of Mary’s brother John?
Children Names notes for John Talbott
That he had a son named Richard Colegate Talbott is important, he was named after his grandfather. The fact that his daughter Rachel married Greenbury Wiley and their daughter Sophia married Joshua Pearce, son of our ancestor William Pearce, places this family geographically in the mix of our ancestral families of Mine Run Hundred.
My Comments notes for Sophia (Spouse 1)
Sophia was the widow of Benjamin Dorsey by whom she had apparently three children -- Benjamin, Elisha and Cassandra.

Benjamin Dorsey had, in 1741, bought Talbott’s Last Shift from Thomas Colegate. This was land once owned by John Talbott’s father, John, now finding its way back into the family when he married Sophia.

When her husband died in 1771, Sophia chose Elisha Dorsey, her son I think, as one of her sureties. Sophia died in 1788. Her administrators were her son John, son of John of Mine Run Hundred, Greenbury Wiley and Richard Colegate Talbott -- all three her sons.
