In 1860, Louisa was living, with no husband seemingly present, in Lower Augusta with their children. Her husband, Jacob, I believe had gone to check out the prospects of moving to Peoria. In addition to her children, 2 year old Charles D Gossler lived with her and her immediate neighbor was Charles and Margaret Gossler.

Charles and Harriet are part of the glue that ties everything together. We see them in the 1860 Census with Louisa and they are buried in Missouri, their graves linked to Jacob and Louisa as their parents. And Harriet was no doubt Hattie living with her parents in 1880.

Meiser’s Martz/Mertz lists Jacob as a son of William and Elizabeth and says he moved to Missouri. He is designated P6a1b.

I do not know where Jacob was living in 1850, he was not with his father and I can’t find him anywhere else. In 1860, he was living with his uncle, I believe, John in Peoria while his wife was still back in Lower Augusta Township with their first five children.

I cannot find this family in 1870 but by 1880 they were in Macon County, Missouri. Examination of the birthplaces of their children show that Louisa must have joined Jacob in Illinois and they were there well into the late 1860’s but their daughter Maggie born in 1870 was born in Missouri. My best guess is the family may well have been in transit at the time of the 1870 Census.
