A Samuel Martz (1836-1903) married Catherine Hilbush and I have worked hard from time to time to figure out who he was. For awhile I thought the answer was obvious, that he was the Samuel listed as a son of Benjamin in the 1850 Census, age 13.

But Joseph Meiser accounts for Benjamin’s son Samuel. He says Samuel Martz (1837-1/19/1889) married Mary ____ (11/18/1832-1/7/1889) and is buried in Shamokin Cemetery.

I can’t verify where he is buried, he is not on find-a-grave, but indeed, Census shows this Samuel Martz listed in Coal Township in 1860, age 24, and in Shamokin Township in 1870 and 1880, always with wife Mary.
