Peter and Eliza baptized son James Polk Mertz on 16 Apr 1846 at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orwigswburg. He was born 13 May 1845. He lived with his parents in the 1850 and 1860 Census. His death notice called him James P Mertz, his wife’s tombstone says “wife of James K Mertz” and his son’s death certificate solves the problem by calling him James K P Mertz.
