Parent-Proof notes for Ellen S Kistler
I first got her maiden name from the death certificate of her son Charles H. It is confirmed by her husband’s and her own death certificate.
Her death certificate gives her name as Ellen Sarah Kistler — so take your pick. And it gives her parents names as Charles Kistler and Elizabeth Moser.
I actually investigated that a little bit and here is what I wrote Linda Bunch who maintains Ellen’s memorial:
“I know that the death certificate for Ellen Sarah says she was the daughter of Elizabeth Moser but the death certificate of her brother Abraham Lincoln says his mother was Elizabeth Peter (or Peters) as does the death certificate of their sister Lizzie K Swengel. Moreover, a biography I found on Llewellyn (and I'm embarrassed to say I did not note where I found it) says his mother-in-law was Elzabeth Peter.
The Peter family was an important Lehigh County family. I tried to google the names Charles Kistler and Elizabeth Moser and got totally confused as the Kistler, Moser and Peter families seem to be all tangled up in multiple ways. Just a guess, maybe Elizabeth Peter's mother was Moser.
I tell you all this just FYI. I am not related to this line of Mertzes in any way but if you are, I thought you might want to consider that her name seems more likely to have been Elizabeth Peter.”
As a typical find-a-graver, Linda neither acknowledged my input nor added anymore information to her memorial.

We know Llewellyn as the son of Charles from his presence in his father’s household in 1850 (he was Levand age 2) and 1860 (he was Gevellan age 12). He is designated H6a1d.
There is also a death certificate for him saying exactly that, his parents were Charles E and Salome (Steininger) Mertz. His death certificate also gives the full maiden name of his wife: Sarah Ellen Kistler.

Both Llewellyn and Sarah are on find-a-grave. His name was slightly mis-spelled and more importantly he was linked to the wrong Sarah Ellen as his wife. I got everything straightened out.
