“Daniel F. Mertz. a former resident of Allentown, son of .William and Sarah A. Mertz. and brother of Josiah Mertz of Wilkes-Barre, Chas. Mertz of Pittsburg, William H. Mertz of Boston, and John S. Mertz and Mrs. Rev. J. H. Shirey of Allentown, died Wednesday at Greenville, Mercer County, where he resided with his family for 22 years. His aged mother, who lives at 813 Allen Street, and his brother John started for Greenville Thursday morning to attend the funeral, which will take place next Saturday. Deceased was a native of South Whitehall, and with his father and two brothers served in the Civil War. A brother was killed at Poco-taligo and his father died from sickness contracted in the war. Deceased was for a time confined in the Rebel prison at Andersonville. He was a member of the 47th Regiment.”
