Her death certificate says she was the daughter of John and Eva (Meyers) Busch — both born in France it says.

Her obituary in the Lehighton Evening Leader dated 25 Mar 1909 listed her surviving children: “Eva, Clara, Hazel, May, Frank, Arthur, Lionel Mertz, all of Allentown; Mrs. Eva Wilson, Olney and Harold Mertz, Denver, Col.”

Franklin C Mertz lived with his parents, David and Caroline, in 1860, age 13. I had some trouble finding him after that but when I saw his mother’s will and that he was still alive in 1887 when she wrote it, I tried harder and have now found him. He is designated H6a2c.

In 1880, he was living in Iowa then back in Allentown in 1900.

The death certificate of his wife says she died a widow in 1909. He must have died a few years earlier. She is buried at Fairview Cemetery in Allentown with a nice marker but Franklin is just not there apparently.
But there is a Franklin Charles Mertz buried in Los Angeles on find-a-grave with a tombstone showing only the name F C Mertz and that he served in the 47th PA Infantry, no dates, but there are exact birth and death dates on his memorial. I think it is him.
Indeed, a newspaper clipping from the Lehighton Evening Leader of 27 Apr 1904 says: “Frank Mertz, aged 57, a former resident of Franklin is dead at the Soldiers Home in Los Angeles.”
But there is a Franklin Charles Mertz buried in Los Angeles on find-a-grave with a tombstone showing only the name F C Mertz and that he served in the 47th PA Infantry, no dates, but there are exact birth and death dates on his memorial. I think it is him.
