Henry is known from the 1848 estate accounting of Elizabeth Martz as one of three heirs. Another heir was Jonathan Pursell in right of his wife who we know was Susan who was said to be the daughter of Peter Martz when she married Jonathan.

I found Henry K Martz, with that middle initial, in the 1870 Census in Indianapolis. He was born in Pennsylvania and the age looked reasonable for him to be the man I was looking for — but I needed more to believe it was really this particular Henry K Martz.

I found the proof I needed when I found that his sister Susan and her husband Jonathan Purcell had also moved to Indianapolis and when I found that they named a son Peter Martz Purcell, I felt things were quite nicely locked together.

Based on the names of his family members, I am sure he was also the man indexed as Henry Marks in Indianapolis in 1860. I think he already had family by 1850 but I am unable to find him in that Census.

Henry K is on find-a-grave, buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, where I also found his sister, Susan Purcell.
