Her maiden name comes from the death certificate of their son Ambrose (who must have been the son Sebastian in 1870 and 1880). It was spelled Unstead there and in the 1860 Census, Umpstead on Ambrose’s Social Security Application and Umstead in the 1850 Census. Her parents in those Census were Jesse and Barbara.

We know Henry as Jacob’s son since he lived with his father in 1850 and with other family members in 1860 and 1880. He is designated P7c3.

Henry was married but only for a short time. He did have a son named Sebastian or Sylvester. By 1880, Henry’s wife had died and he lived with his sister and brother and his son.

He is not on find-a-grave. The Danville Morning News of 21 Aug 1919 reported that “Henry Martz, a well known resident of Washingtonville, died yesterday…age 77…survived by one sister Eliza St Clair of West Point, Nebraska and one son, Ambrose of Milton.”
