Mary’s son Abraham married Christina Eyer and his daughter Sophia married Aaron Klose. Sophia’s daughter Harriett Alice married Samuel I Bingaman son of Peter Bingaman and Catherine Mertz.
I have an email friend named Richard Aurand Sherer and he and I have many families in common in our ancestry that we correspond about from time to time but so far have not established any common ancestor -- so we are not cousins in any way, so far as we know.
There were several marriages in Union and Snyder Counties of an Aurand to a Mertz (including Mary Magdalena’s brother, for example) which is one way we find ourselves tracking the same families. And Richard has Yost (of York County) ancestors and Yost is a name you will find in our Mother’s family tree. Then there is this line. Richard is descended from an ancestor of Peter Bingaman. He has been asking me about this Mertz line ever since I have known him. Catherine’s father was John Mertz.
I have known about this John Mertz since I began tracking the migration of Mertzes from Longswamp Township to Northumberland County; Richard brought him to my attention. But we have not been able to determine from which of the early Mertz lines of Berks County this John descends.
John may well be the very first non-Longswamp Mertz to arrive in North'd/Union/Snyder Counties and he came in about the 1830's. His death certificate says he was born in 1791 in Kutztown, PA son of John and Margaret. My suspicion is that he is of the Johannes and Rosina Hase line, but I have not proven that by any means.
