Mrs. Emma Smith, widow of Hir-
am Smith died in Redlands. Cal.,
August 5, aged eighty-seven years.
The body will arrive in Losansport
Monday and be taken to the home
of her daughter Mrs. Ella Shesler
of Burnettsville.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two
two sons Phillip and Harry Smith,
and three daughters. Laura Smith
and Mrs Ida Mertz all of California
and Mrs. Ella Shesler of Burn-
ettsville.

Mrs. Emma Mertz was born in
Lewiston, Pa., in 1838 and died at
the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Ida Mertz in Reeding, Cal., Aug.
4, 1925, aged eighty-seven years,
one month and two days. She was
married to Hiram Smith, Oct. 29,
I863, to which, union were born
nine children of whom five are living,
Laura Smith, Mrs. George
Mertz, Messrs. Philip and Harry
Smith of Reeding, Cal., and Mrs.
Ella Shesler of this place. The husband
and four children preceded
her a number of years ago. Also
surviving are one sister, Mrs. Walter
Rupert of Dunkirk, N. Y., nine
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body arrived Monday
evening, being accompanied by
George Mertz. The funeral services
were conducted by Rev. Heeler
from the Brethren church Tuesday
afternoon. Interment in the Davis
cemetery.
