Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Andrew Forsyth Mertz (P5a3e)
We know from the 1850 and 1860 Census that Israel had a son Andrew born in about 1848. The fact that Andrew is also present in Turbot Township in 1870 where his brother William and his mother also established that Andrew had come to the Milton area. So when we find Andrew born Apr 1848 living in Milton, we can be certain he is Israel's son. He is designated P5a3e.

Known Sons notes for Andrew Forsyth Mertz (P5a3e)
In present day Milton, they’ve established the Milton Historic Downtown Walking Tour, an exhibit devoted to Milton’s history. Several of the exhibits have to do with old-time baseball activities in town and several Mertzes are named in those exhibits.
Harry F Mertz (1870-1933) was the son of Israel’s son John. You will find Harry's picture on the Walking Tour as a member of the 1907 league winning baseball team.
Frederick G Mertz was the son of Israel’s son Andrew F. He most certainly was the man listed as Fred G Mertz age 39 living in Milton in 1930 with sons Maynard age 17 and Andrew J age 14.
Maynard's and Andy's pictures are on the Walking Tour as they were both softball league officials in 1950 when Milton won the state championships. Andy was President of the league. Their association with softball is not surprising since their father's first cousin was the aforementioned Harry F, member of the 1907 league championship Milton baseball team.
