Research notes for John Vinton (Vinton 1, page 11)
“John Vinton is the ancestor of all persons bearing the name Vinton in America.”
But John Adams Vinton was unable to find much information about him. He says: “It is not known when or where he was born, when or where he died, or what his occupation was. He seems to have been a young man in 1648 so born probably around 1620.”
John Adams Vinton also discusses at length the possibility that Vinton is likely a name of French origin. It is supposed he was the son of a French refugee, forced by religious prosecution to abandon his native land and take up abode in England. It is believed he came to America from England before 1643.
His first child was born in Lynn in 1648 which is the first record of him in America.
Research notes for Ann (Spouse 1)
John had six several children born about every two years between 1648 and 1658 and then a four year gap to 1662. Only the baptism record of the final child gave the name of John’s wife, Ann, and it is quite possible she was a second wife.
