Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Owen Martz (Y2b1)
In 2015, Jacqueline Betzold wrote me that she was descended from John Owen Martz. She aded that John Owen married Elizabeth Gross in Pennsylvania, they moved to Illinois between 1850 and 1860 according to Census and they had 8 children.
Had she written me a year or so earlier, I would not have known who Owen was but by the time she wrote, I knew all about the family history of Dennis Martz and knew quite well who Owen was.
It is only my analysis that “proves” that Owen was the son of John Mertz who moved from Lehigh County to Lebanon County, PA in the 1830’s but I believe I make a compelling case.
Owen is designated Y2b1.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Owen Martz (Y2b1)
I believe Owen was born in Lehigh County and moved with his father to Lebanon County in the 1830’s. There he married Eliza and they baptized Adam, (in 1849) Caroline, Emma and Willam Henry (1859) at Salem Lutheran Church.
Shortly thereafter, they moved to Shelby County, IL, later La Salle County, IL and then by 1900 in Buena Vistas County, Iowa where he died.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Owen Martz (Y2b1)
